Applied AI Engineer
Design AI into real product workflows, grounded in the customer's data and measured against it from day one.
What this role is, in plain terms.
You will design and build the AI that lives inside our clients' products: copilots, agents, document automation, and decision support that has to work on real data and real workflows. You will care as much about evaluation and reliability as about the model, because a demo that impresses is not the same as a feature that earns its place.
What you will own.
- Design AI features that move a real metric, and say no to the ones that only look good in a demo.
- Ground model output in the client's data with retrieval, careful context design, and sensible guardrails.
- Build evaluation and test sets so quality is measured over time rather than assumed once.
- Integrate agents, tools, and model pipelines into live systems that stay reliable and observable.
- Manage cost, latency, and failure modes so the feature holds up under real usage.
- Work shoulder to shoulder with product engineers so the AI fits the way people already work.
What the role asks of you.
- Four or more years in software, with applied AI or machine learning features shipped to real users.
- A practical grasp of retrieval, prompting, evaluation, and grounding model output in data.
- Strong engineering fundamentals, so what you build is dependable rather than a notebook.
- Honesty about what AI can and cannot do for a given problem, and the judgement to choose.
- Comfort handling sensitive data carefully and within real constraints.
Helpful, but not required.
- Experience building agents or tool-using systems that run live.
- Familiarity with self-hosted or on-device models where data cannot leave.
- A background in data engineering or model operations.
A clear path in, not a cold start.
What the early going actually looks like.
Learn the ground truth
Get into a live client problem, understand the data, and set up a first evaluation harness.
Ship a grounded feature
Take one AI use case live with retrieval and evaluation in place.
Raise the bar
Own the quality and reliability of AI across an engagement, and set patterns others reuse.
What the studio offers in return.
- Real ownership of products with real users, not tickets in a queue.
- Teammates you will learn from, and who will learn from you.
- Weekly shipping, so your work reaches people while it still feels fresh.
- Room to go deep on AI, infrastructure, design, or product, as your strengths pull you.
- Remote-first work with a calm, deliberate weekly rhythm.
- Honest feedback and a flat structure, so good ideas win regardless of who has them.
